Located in the picturesque village of Schengen, the Domaine “Thill ” and its iconic Chateau de Schengen was formerly a family-owned estate founded more than 100 years ago. It is now managed by the “Caves Bernard Massard” but has kept the authentic character of the terroirs around Schengen, with the wines made separately. The estate owns vines in some of the region’s best terroirs; clay limestone soils, gently sloping down to the River Moselle. The original label depicts a drawing of the château by Victor Hugo.
The grapes are harvested by hand, usually in late September. The grapes are collected in crates of 200 kg and are transported twice a day to the Domaine's pneumatic wine presses. The must ferments in temperature controlled stainless steel. After ageing for a few months on fine lees, the wines are bottled in the spring following the harvest.
The previous vintage fantastic Riesling was a winner of a Gold medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards in 2020, and this maintains the level of quality. A dry Riesling which is fresh, taut and alive with concentrated, floral lime and tangerine fruit and vibrant mouth-watering acidity that demands another sip.
