Located in the most prestigious area within Pomerol, the Merlot-dominant wine of Château La Fleur-Pétrus offers the power and elegance that typifies this right bank plateau. Taking its name from its location between Château Lafleur and Chȃteau Pétrus, this wine matches the opulence and grace of its neighbours. Comprised of 90% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot, the 2008 vintage offers concentrated notes of blackberry, cassis, tobacco, and spice, with silky tannins and impressive length. Drink now to 2030.

The vineyards of Château La Fleur-Pétrus have a long history in the appellation of Pomerol. The Château was built in 1783 and, by the 19th century, the wines had gained great renown in the area. The vineyard has since passed through many notable hands, before coming into the ownership of Jean Pierre Moueix. Moueix, noted for his work on and later ownership of Château Pétrus, used his expertise to bring about the greatest expressions of the terroir in his wines.

While other appellations faced difficulties in the 2008 growing season, with mildew, cool temperatures and hail, Pomerol prevailed, producing some of the best wines of the vintage. La Fleur-Pétrus is aged between 16 and 18 months in 50% new French Oak barrels, following fermentation in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless-steel vats. The aroma of this vintage is complex and fruit-forward, with notes of fresh strawberry, black cherry, cassis and black plum, along with offerings of liquorice, spice, vanilla and forest floor. The palate is full bodied, with a strong foundation of silky tannins, yet balanced and refined, with red and black fruits in abundance and great fruit-driven length.

“A major sleeper of the vintage, the 2008 La Fleur Petrus (90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc) is a remarkably sexy, opulent wine that transcends the vintage character. Its dense plum/ruby/purple color is accompanied by notes of sweet black cherries, licorice, truffles and a hint of graphite. Full-bodied with silky tannin as well as undeniable appeal, richness, purity and a 40+ second finish, this is a sure-fire big buy in 2008. Drink it over the next 20+ years.” 95/100 Robert Parker
