Domaine Courbet is a 7.5 hectare estate farmed biodynamically by Damien Courbet. This rising Jura star's Chardonnay Les Rondos is aged for 18 months in topped barrels. A brilliant, elegant, rich white.
Domaine Courbet was founded in 1896 and consists of just 7.5 hectares, half of which are in the prestigious Château Chalon appellation, source of the Jura's finest wines. Damien Courbet is surely a big star of the future – since taking over from his father Jean-Marie he has started working biodynamically, making small quantities of immaculate wines in a fine elegant style, very focused on terroir, with a technical yet light touch approach to his winemaking that brings out the maximum expression of the region and its varieties. The wines avoid rusticity while being true to their origins. From a mid-slope parcel of biodynamically tended vines grown on Jurassic clay-limestone. Fermented and aged in 10% new French oak barrels for 18 months, topped up. A touch of smoky matchstick reduction, Burgundian and complex with a tight thread of citrus acidity running through. Grilled nuts, nectarine, tangy and a long finish – really complex and classy, just a brilliant Chardonnay.
