Domaine Grand is an organic Jura winery making some of the region's best wines from their all estate. Vin de Paille is the traditional dessert wine of the Jura, and this example is a blend of Chardonnay, Savagnin and Poulsard. The grapes are dried, then fermented and aged in a large barrel. Rich and sweet, with flavours of peach jam, nuts, citrus, honey and yellow plum.
Domaine Grand was founded in 1692 and today is in the capable hands of Nathalie and Emmanuel Grand, who have been behind the move towards organics. Their wines are towards the richer and more oxidative end of the scale – broad and rich, yet always controlled, plus a superb fizz and an excellent red. They make 19 wines in total from 9.5 hectares and are considered to be one of the most exciting up-and-coming Jura estates.
Vin de Paille is the rare, traditional dessert wine of the Jura. This is a blend of Chardonnay, Savagnin and Poulsard from 30-40 year old vines. The bunches of grapes are left to dry for three months to concentrate the sugars before pressing and fermentation then ageing in a 1500 litre large old oak barrel. Rich and sweet, yet balanced with flavours of peach jam, nuts, honey and yellow plum with refreshing balancing acidity
