The Goubard family are based in the village of St-Desert, near Givry in Burgundy’s Cote Chalonnaise, and have been making wine since the 17th century. This Bourgogne Rouge Cote Chalonnaise is from the slopes of Mont-Avril which overlook the village. In 1985 Michel Goubard took it upon himself to resuscitate old vineyards on this hillside which had been neglected since the early 1900s. At an average of 430 metres above sea level, the vineyards benefit from an ideal southeast exposure and clay-limestone soil. After a 2 week vinification with pigeage and remontage, the wine is aged for a year in 15% new French oak barrels.
A delicious approachable Pinot Noir with soft, crushed damson and raspberry fruit notes, flecked with subtle oak spice and rounded out with gentle tannins. This offers plenty of all-round appeal without losing sight of its Burgundian origins.
